This half term we are gaining a better understanding of our natural world and different celebrations.
The first week we will be learning about who St George was and why we celebrate St George's day.The children will learn to be familiar with their own family cultural celebrations from an early age. This gives them a sense of belonging of self value, recogniton of their heritage and sense belonging. Sharing celebrations and festivals allows the children to share their values and to be proud of their own knowledge and gain further understanding of others.
This half term we are learning about a range of different subjects. To start with, we are making our own garen mobiles/windchimes. We will watch them in the wind and use our looking and listening senses to see the changes and how it happens.
Then will then be making a special card for our Daddys, Grandads or someone special for Father's Day. We will talk to the children about their experiences. The children will be encouraged to learn that all families are different but we are all equal. When we dshare our experiences we are building self confidence and self awarness. Different celebrations challenge various emotions for children to be able to express and manage.
On the 3rd week we are making a collage with pictures of the children's favourite sports. We will be learning why exercise is so important for us and experimenting our body movements in many ways.
Then we will be making a rainbow sun plate. We will be learning about the different weathers and how a rainbow is formed. We will experiment with different ingredients such as smarties with milk to make our own rainbows in a bowl.
Then as we will only have 2 weeks left the leavers will be making their party hats for their leavers party and talking about their transition to their big school, and the little ones will be creating a summer bucket list picture where we will talking about what they would like to do in the summer or where they would like to go. We can look at the UK map and different signs for the children to link to their outside experiences.
Then the final week we will be learning how to bake our own biscuits and decorate them. Baking/cooking will help children to do things for themselves as well as learning to take turns fairly when activity includes others. Producing foods they have made and prepared themsleves will give them self confidence, pride and a sense of achivenment.
