Early Literacy and Numeracy

Early exposure to literacy helps children develop vocabulary and narrative skills, also an awareness and interest in books, reading and mark making, essential for becoming successful readers and writers.
Early exposure to numeracy helps children understand patterns, shapes, and measurements, develop critical thinking and decision-making skills, and gain confidence in solving everyday problems.
At Our Lady's Preschool, our educators use a variety of approaches to support the development of these skills, including hands-on activities, role-playing, and real-life scenarios.
For example, our children might use beads, number rods, and counting blocks to understand numbers and quantities, or they might build with blocks to learn about patterns and symmetry.
Our educators make story time fun and interactive, developing our children's comprehension and vocabulary, by encouraging participation, asking questions, predicting what will happen next, and acting out parts of the story together.
